Preaching on the Islands

On a typical Sunday, Andy will leave for the islands around 7:30 am and will travel on the water using our catamaran as his main source of transportaition. It is an ineresting way to get to work! Rain or shine, Andy tends to go out unless the weather is very threatening. Lightning is not good when out on a sailboat! When there is not enough wind, Andy uses a 3 hp engine to push the catamaran along.
As we have only just begun our new term out, Andy has been randomly visiting the island churches to check up on progress, encourage those leading the church (often the laity), and to preach that Sunday service if invited to do so (which is most often the case!) It is a great way to find out what the felt needs are among the church, to pray together with believers and to lead seekers to Christ. While visiting the churches these first months back, Andy is working with them toward helping each church reach its own personal goal of outreach, to set up seminar times for further study of the Scriptures, and to provide Bibles and Christian literature as requested. After the church service, their typically is an exteded time of fellowship over a meal and then perhaps a second teaching time in the afternoon. Andy normally arrives home around 6-7 pm.

We've Returned!

After a four day delay in returning due to the troubles in Nairobi, we returned home in January. The kids had a two week delay to the start of their school, so they were able to come home with us. Due to needing to circumnavigate the troubled areas in Western Kenya, the route from Nairobi to our main supply town now took three days travel time by car. Despite the inconvenience, it was good to arrive home safe and sound. As soon as Andy was able to get his engines and catamaran in working order, he began visiting the islands and preaching. Margaret has been getting the house back in order and has been teaching Bible classes to students and to the local AIC women. We've been blessed to have the company and extra help of several volunteers with us.

Christmas In Arizona!

After a six month long visit to the US, the kids travelled with Margaret's parents to their home in Arizona for the week before Christmas.  They decorated the tree, made cookies and even a gingerbread house.  We thank Dave and Gretchen for their week of caring for the kids and preparing their hearts for Christmas.  Margaret packed our bags in California while Andy worked on the hovercraft.  We drove to be with the kids on Christmas Eve and celebrated Christ's birth together as a family.

Hovercraft Project

The hovercraft parts have arrived! Building has begun! Andy's father, Howard Andersen was visiting from Florida when this shipment arrived. We are praying the craft will be completed and shiped by Dec. 14th. Please come by to help if you like!

Dear Family and Friends,

Greetings to you from our house to yours! We are thrilled to be able to have internet connection available to us now in Kahunda via a cell phone modem connection. We are in the process of learning to create this blog site. Praise God for this new way to record the evidences of God's working! We thank God for His provision of this house as we minister among the island peoples. Andy finished building it in the year 2000. We are comfortable with the simple luxuries of window screening, a cement floor, and a metal roof over our head. We like to think of it as "fancy camping"! It is actually fancier than camping as we have a hot shower and a flush toilet, too. :-) Our guest room awaits you. Karibu! (Welcome!)
